The Labour Court recommended that Becton Dickinson Ireland Limited/BD and the Services Industrial Professional Technical Union engage locally on pay and examine whether the 2019 award was out of step with sector norms. The recommendation, concerning 109 SIPTU Members, was signed on 18 November 2020. The union had sought a 3.4% increase, while the company had proposed 2.25% for 12 months from April 2019, an offer members rejected. The company paid the 2.25% increase and did not attend the Labour Court hearing. The Court noted that many of the union’s comparators showed increases of 2.5% or less for 12 months in 2019, and that pay figures alone could not compare employers.
