The Labour Court recommended against two allowance claims made by the Services Industrial Professional Technical Union for Dublin Fire Brigade members: a Parade Allowance and an annual leave payment comparable to those received by An Garda Siochana. The recommendation was signed on 19 December 2017. Dublin City Council disputed the claimed pay parity and said the claims would increase costs and were barred by the parties’ agreement. The Court said it lacked undisputed detail to conclude that fire brigade and Garda members were in the same or a like situation. It also found the claims were cost-increasing and prohibited under clause 4.2.1 of the agreement.
