The Labour Court recommended that Cork City Council and the Services Industrial Professional Technical Union comply with the 1987 agreement on training attendance and time off in lieu. It recommended that the union undertake the disputed Positive Pressure Ventilation/Ladder and Jack Lynch Tunnel training. The Court recommended that the Council confirm its commitment to give one month’s notice of training where possible and explain shorter notice. Genuine requests for exemptions should not be unreasonably withheld. It also recommended talks on the union’s outstanding claims and updating the agreement. The recommendation was signed on 1 February 2017.
