The Labour Court recommended that Irish Rail and the Services Industrial Professional Technical Union (SIPTU Nbru) resume talks on productivity and drivers' hours. It signed the recommendation on 22 December 2016. The Court said the parties should develop an agenda covering past and future productivity, assess the items and how both sides could benefit, and continue work to understand the cost and operational effects of reducing drivers' hours from 43.5 to 39 a week. It recommended technical assistance if needed. The Court did not consider the mentoring issue because it lacked submissions from both parties. If they agree to pursue it as a separate matter, the Court said it should be referred with comprehensive submissions.
