The Labour Court recommended that Opera Theatre Company Limited pay an unnamed worker €2,800 per year for three years towards training after redundancy, in addition to the company’s offered €5,120 ex-gratia payment. The recommendation was signed on 19 June 2014. The worker had sought enhanced redundancy terms comparable to those given to a former colleague. The company cited financial difficulties and said it had offered statutory entitlements, an ex-gratia payment and training support but could pay no more. The Court said the annual training payments should be made in three instalments, with any outstanding balance paid in full if the payments were threatened.
