Labour Court recommends €10,000 for worker dismissed by Matthews Coach Hire

The Labour Court recommended that Matthews Coach Hire Ltd pay an anonymous worker €10,000 in full and final settlement of claims arising from his alleged unfair dismissal. The recommendation was signed on 31 January 2014. The worker said he was dismissed during probation without performance concerns having been raised and was unable to secure an internal appeal. The employer did not attend the hearing. On the worker’s uncontested submissions, the Court said the dismissal process fell short of reasonable employer fairness standards and breached the disciplinary and grievance procedures code.
