The Labour Court recommended that on-call service at St James Hospital continue on its current basis while national discussions on health-service time-off-in-lieu arrangements proceed. The recommendation, concerning a claim by INMO & SIPTU, was signed on 17 December 2013. The unions said the new arrangements were less favourable and sought time off in lieu whenever workers were called in while on call. St James Hospital said staff were adequately compensated and the claim would have service implications. The Court said a final recommendation could prejudice the national discussions, and recommended reconsidering the claim after they concluded.
