The Labour Court recommended that Brendan Gilmore Security Ltd pay a worker €15,000 compensation after finding he was penalised for taking sick leave by having his weekly hours reduced. The recommendation was signed on 4 December 2012. The worker said his hours fell from 48 a week to 12 after nine months of certified sick leave, and that replacement workers continued to cover his shifts. The company did not attend the hearing, though it had been notified. The Court said the reduction caused about €30,000 in loss and recommended compensation of €15,000. The worker was represented by the Services Industrial Professional Technical Union; the company by Peninsula Business Services.
