The Labour Court recommended against Cobh General Hospital’s proposal to end nurses’ maternity top-up payments, in a recommendation signed on 24 January 2011. It called for the hospital and INMO to discuss alternative savings by 2 March 2012. Cobh General Hospital said its funding had fallen from €1,175 to €960 per bed each week and that it needed to reduce staffing costs. INMO argued the proposal was discriminatory, would break pay parity with the HSE and conflicted with the Croke Park Agreement.
