The Labour Court recommended accepting the HSE’s position that the smoking gazebo at Dr. Steevens’ Hospital be removed as part of making the campus tobacco-free. The recommendation was signed on 17 August 2011. The Irish Municipal, Public and Civil Trade Union argued that the gazebo arrangement had been agreed in 2004 and should not be ended unilaterally. The HSE said its Tobacco Control Framework aimed to make all HSE campuses tobacco-free within five years. The Court recommended that the parties discuss practical measures to help affected employees comply with the new arrangements.
