The Labour Court recommended conceding the Services Industrial Professional Technical Union’s claim for redundancy terms at the Irish Blood Transfusion Service in a recommendation signed on 17 December 2010. The dispute followed an agreement to change clinic hours and rosters, with six or seven voluntary redundancies planned for staff unable to accept the new arrangements. The union sought terms in line with the HSE scheme. The Service argued that its offer of two weeks’ pay per year of service, capped at 18 months, was generous and that the scheme did not apply to it.
