The Labour Court did not recommend conceding the Services Industrial Professional Technical Union’s claim against Kilkenny County Council for an on-call and out-of-hours allowance. The recommendation was signed on 9 December 2010. The union said cemetery workers took undertakers’ calls and provided burial services at weekends, although weekend work was not assigned. The Council said workers received at least six hours’ pay when required to provide weekend or public-holiday services. It argued the claim was precluded by the Public Service Agreement 2010–2014. The Court noted the Council’s undertaking to address deficiencies in administrative arrangements around weekend working.
