In a recommendation signed on 29 September 2009, the Labour Court proposed a package to settle a dispute between Element 6 and the Services Industrial Professional Technical Union, the Technical, Engineering and Electrical Union, and Unite over redundancy and restructuring terms. The recommended package included a 20% premium for unsocial hours between 9pm and 7am, with a joint review six months after implementation. It also included a €500 payment for employees who remained at work and were affected by the removal of allowances. For redundancies, the Court recommended four weeks’ pay per year of service, capped at 78 weeks, plus €1,000 for each year of service beyond 20 years and a €7,500 minimum for short-service employees. One-third of the ex gratia payment was to be deferred until February 2010.
