The Labour Court recommended that the Central Bank of Ireland fund a worker’s health and safety diploma course, with the worker making up class time through flexi and annual leave. The recommendation was signed on 28 April 2008. The worker, represented by the Services Industrial Professional Technical Union, said the Bank had first approved his course under its training scheme, then withdrew permission. The Bank said the course did not meet its rules and lacked required prior approval. The Court said the parties should revive the terms set out in the Bank’s letter of 15 May 2007. Under those terms, the union should agree to the worker making up the time spent in class hour for hour, and the Bank should provide the funding claimed.
