The Labour Court recommended that Aibp increase the hygiene bonus at its Rathkeale meat plant by 76 cent per kill day, effective from 1 February 2006. The recommendation, signed on 22 December 2006, followed a dispute with Services Industrial Professional Technical Union over how the bonus should be adjusted. The union sought increases linked to the Consumer Price Index and national wage agreements, with an 18-month review and retrospection to October 2004. Aibp argued increases should reflect basic pay and opposed backdating to that date. The Court recommended future increases reflect CPI and national wage agreements, or the going rate if there is no national agreement, and accepted an 18-month review on the basis of increases reflecting basic pay and CPI.
