The Labour Court recommended urgent further talks between De La Rue Smurfit Limited and the Dublin Printing Group Of Unions on shift premiums, notice for changes between shift and day work, and the length of the working week. The Court said the company should outline its future shift requirements and recommended discussing compensation for the permanent loss of shift premiums, revised shift terms and conditions, and the company’s proposed 38.5-hour week. The company said changes were needed after it lost AIB Bank as a major customer; the unions said the proposals threatened workers’ pay and conditions. The recommendation was signed on 21 November 2006.
