Labour Court recommends talks on compensation for HSE workers moved to St Senan’s

The Labour Court recommended renewed negotiations on compensation for HSE South East Region workers moved from St Senan’s Hospital, Enniscorthy, who were not compensated through promotion or regrading. The recommendation was signed on 9 November 2006. The Services Industrial Professional Technical Union and Irish Municipal, Public and Civil Trade Union had sought €2,000 for affected workers and a further €500 for those moved from Enniscorthy. The HSE said staff had already been compensated for flexibility and change under national agreements. The Court said the Castlerea Formula could not support claims outside transfers within psychiatric services, but found the extra 28-mile daily journey for St Senan’s staff exceptional. It did not recommend conceding the claim for workers who had been promoted or regraded, or those moved from other locations.
