The Labour Court recommended phased compensation for workers at Odlum Group’s Portarlington plant after shift working ended during a restructuring. The recommendation was signed on 8 July 2005. The Services Industrial Professional Technical Union sought compensation for lost shift premiums and a €5,000 payment for cooperation with restructuring. Odlum Group had offered €1,000 for ending shift work and €300 for cooperation. The Court recommended €1,300 when the new hours began, followed by three further €1,300 payments at four-month intervals if shift working had not resumed. It also recommended increasing the cooperation payment to €500 per employee.
