In 2004, the Labour Court recommended additional ex-gratia payments for two Northern Feather Limited workers after the company closed its feather factory section. The recommendation was dated 21 December 2004. The Services Industrial Professional Technical Union sought enhanced redundancy terms, saying the workers had given long service and had little help finding suitable redeployment. Northern Feather Limited said it had tried to reach a solution and that its offer exceeded earlier company settlements. The Court recommended an additional payment for each worker equal to their respective statutory redundancy rebate: €4,782.46 for Mr H and €4,243 for Mr G. It also recommended agreement on wording for negotiations in any future restructuring or redundancy.
