Equality Officer finds pub discriminated against father and awards €1,000

Workplace decision ·

An Equality Officer found that Stanalees Services Ltd., trading as The Traders Pub, discriminated against Kenneth James on family-status grounds and victimised him, ordering the pub to pay €500 and €1,000 respectively. The decision was dated 22 December 2004.

James said he was refused entry with his children during a soccer screening, although other customers with children were admitted. The pub said it had restricted children for safety after an earlier crowded match. The officer found the policy had not been applied consistently and the pub had not established a legal defence.

The officer also found that the pub victimised James by barring him after he challenged the refusal.
