Labour Court rejects Central Bank staff overtime compensation claim

In 2004, the Labour Court did not recommend compensation for Central Bank Of Ireland staff who lost regular overtime after euro banknote production fell. The Services Industrial Professional Technical Union said workers had regularly worked overtime for decades and sought compensation for lost earnings. The Bank said reduced production allowed cleaning duties to move into normal hours and relied on an industry agreement covering overtime lost because of market or customer demand. The Court found the claim was covered by that agreement and could not be conceded. Its recommendation was signed on 30 September 2004.
