Labour Court recommends MECA rates in Sandvik Tamrock pay dispute

The Labour Court recommended that Sandvik Tamrock (Irish Branch) and the Technical, Engineering And Electrical Union take account of the MECA rates in further discussions over a pay agreement made in May 2001. The company disputed that the agreement included MECA rates and said it could not change pay without approval from its client, Arcon. The Court said the union had good reason to believe the agreement included those rates and that they were payable. The Court also recommended that the parties consider the possibility that the company’s contract with Arcon could be jeopardised. The recommendation was signed on 20 December 2002.
