In 2001, the Labour Court recommended that Castrol (Ireland) Limited increase its relocation payment offer to £3,000 per claimant for four employees. The recommendation, signed on 9 April, treated the £3,000 as a full and final settlement and took account of an earlier £2,000 payment to employees.
The Services Industrial Professional Technical Union had sought £8,000 for each worker after the company moved from Alexandra Road to Blanchardstown. The union cited the loss of a subsidised canteen and increased travel costs. Castrol said its 1999 restructuring agreement covered the relocation and that it had paid £2,000 per union member, followed by £1,200 when the move was completed.
After considering both sides' submissions, the Court recommended raising the £1,200 offer to £3,000 per claimant. The recommendation was made under the Industrial Relations Act and set out the Labour Court's proposed settlement of the dispute.
