The Labour Court recommended that O'Connor Group pay a worker an ex-gratia £5,000 in full settlement of a redundancy dispute after a shop closure. The worker, a Household Manager, was told on 10 March 2000 that the shop would close at the end of April. The company had offered the statutory minimum redundancy terms; Mandate sought better terms. The Court said the worker had good reason to consider herself redundant and called management’s failure to contact her for weeks after announcing the closure unacceptable. The recommendation was signed on 21 December 2000.
