The Labour Court recommended that Park Motors employees try the company bonus system for six months, with the option to return to their existing arrangement afterwards. The recommendation was signed on 6 November 2000. The dispute involved 14 of the 32 Park Motors workers, part of Motor Services Limited. The company had introduced performance-related pay in 1998, but Park Motors employees rejected it. The Services Industrial Professional Technical Union preferred a group profit or bonus scheme and objected that the system had been introduced without prior consultation. The company said the scheme rewarded mechanics and parts staff for performance and productivity, with payments on top of basic pay. During the trial, the Court recommended that employees be free to suggest changes to the system.
