The Labour Court recommended one additional day of annual leave for workers on the current seven-day shift at Swords Laboratories, effective from the current leave year. The recommendation, dated 3 July 2000, was conditional on the company and the Services Industrial Professional Technical Union, Amalgamated Engineering and Electrical Union, and Technical, Engineering and Electrical Union signing a formal agreement resolving all outstanding issues. The unions had sought three extra days. The Court found that the 1981 agreement’s three-day provision was intended for a more demanding shift cycle involving substantial night work and five weekends in eight.
