The Labour Court recommended that Arcon Mines pay a worker a once-off £500 lump sum after an expectation arose that he was a Mill Process Operator. The recommendation was signed on 12 June 2000. The Court also recommended that Arcon Mines re-offer training for the role and that the worker give it serious consideration. The Services Industrial Professional Technical Union sought the Mill Process Operator rate, saying the worker had qualified for the role. Arcon Mines said his job was properly classified as Mill Labourer. The Court said he had sometimes covered for absent operators but lacked training or experience in all aspects of their work.
