In 1999, the Labour Court declined to recommend additional redundancy payments for about 100 people affected by Ballinamore Textiles Limited's closure, finding the settlement agreement clear about offsetting money due to IDA Ireland. The recommendation was signed on 9 December 1999. The Services Industrial Professional Technical Union sought enhanced payments and said it had reserved the right to pursue a claim if IDA Ireland did not waive its claim. Ballinamore Textiles Limited argued the agreement allowed amounts to be reduced if the IDA claim was not waived. The company had been obliged to pay £110,000 to IDA Ireland.
