In 1999, the Labour Court rejected a £15-per-week pay increase claim by the Technical, Engineering and Electrical Union and the Amalgamated Engineering and Electrical Union at Dundalk Packaging (Mc Ardles Brewery). The unions sought the increase for craft workers, matching one given to general operatives. The Court said the workers' circumstances did not compare with those of process workers who had received an increase after a separate agreement. It also found the claim was debarred under Partnership 2000 as a cost-increasing claim. The Court recommended that negotiations on the K2 change programme should begin. Its recommendation was dated 9 December 1999.
