The Labour Court recommended an annual salary review for a Shires Limited chargehand in its brassware department and a £250 increase to his annual bonus. The recommendation was dated 6 December 1999. The Marine Port & General Worker's Union had sought to raise his pay differential from 10% to 20%, saying he had taken on extra duties and earned less than warehouse colleagues. Shires said his duties had not materially changed and noted that he had better sick pay and worked less overtime. The Court recommended reviewing his salary on the same basis as other management grades, taking account of the company’s financial circumstances.
