In 1999, the Labour Court recommended against conceding a craft pay-differential claim by the TECHNICAL, ENGINEERING AND ELECTRICAL UNION, AMALGAMATED ENGINEERING AND ELECTRICAL UNION and UCATT against IRISH SUGAR PLC. The unions sought restoration of the craft pay relationship after appointments to Grade 5. The Court found the unions understood how Grade 5 would apply when the new craft rates were agreed and that craft relativity remained linked to Grade 4, not the promotional grade.
