In 1997, the Labour Court recommended that the Services Industrial Professional Technical Union, including its Printing Trades Branch and Womens Workers Branch, agree to Dakota Packaging's proposed work practices for breaking out cartons. The recommendation was signed on 27 June 1997. The branches disputed who should do the work and whether an increase was warranted. The Court noted the company's statement about maintaining jobs and its willingness to let the union's industrial engineer assess the practices. It did not recommend in favour of the claim for an increase.
