The Labour Court found that Irish Ferries failed to discuss the implications of a Paymaster’s voluntary redundancy with the Services Industrial Professional Technical Union before filling the post. In a recommendation dated 29 April 1997, it said the current arrangement should be accepted and the parties should agree arrangements for the future. The union sought restoration of a level 3 Paymaster position after the redundancy. The Court recommended that changes arising when a post is filled following voluntary redundancy should be discussed with employee representatives.
