In 1996, the Labour Court recommended an after-hours rate of £20 per patient for radiographers at St. Luke's And St. Anne's Hospital, up from the hospital's proposed £18.50. The recommendation was signed on 23 December. The dispute concerned about 35 radiographers. The hospital argued that current costs were unsustainable amid budget constraints and changing treatment schedules. The Services Industrial Professional Technical Union said the after-hours service was necessary and that radiographers had cooperated with changes to it. The Court also recommended that any resulting loss of earnings be assessed after 12 months, with the parties to agree a compensation formula.
