The Labour Court rejected the Services Industrial Professional Technical Union’s claims for extra clerical increments and retrospective compensation for five Fujitsu Microelectronics Ireland Limited workers. The recommendation was signed on 18 December 1995. The five workers had transferred from operations to administrative duties. The union said they started on lower salary points and sought compensation for their earnings losses, estimated at about £110 to £2,805. Fujitsu said the transfers were voluntary and the workers knew the salary scale. The Court acknowledged their initial loss but found no grounds to concede the claim. The Court also recommended keeping the sick-pay scheme under periodic review and updating it in line with management’s offer if the union considered that an improvement. On job sharing, it recommended that management and the union examine options and difficulties together.
