In 1995, the Labour Court recommended procedures for transfers between workshops at Iarnrod Eireann’s Inchicore Works, confirming full mobility within the site. The recommendation was signed on 13 February 1995. The I.C.T.U. Group Of Unions objected to transfers it said did not follow the productivity agreement. Iarnrod Eireann argued that it needed to move staff where their services were required. The Court recommended that the company first seek volunteers and, if none came forward, generally select staff by seniority, subject to required skills. It also recommended at least one week’s notice in ordinary cases, a chance to apply to return after six months, and use of normal disciplinary procedures before any transfer for disciplinary reasons.
