The Labour Court recommended that Irish Country Meats' workers accept the income continuance scheme on offer and that its benefits be reviewed at each annual renewal, with costs taken into account. The recommendation was signed on 19 December 1994. The Services Industrial Professional Technical Union argued the company should maintain the original employer-funded cover, which had been reduced in 1990 after the insurer sought a substantial premium increase. Irish Country Meats said the insurer could change the cover under its policy contract. The Court noted the original cover was no longer available.
