The Labour Court recommended that Bord Na Mona update the bonus scheme for rail transport operatives under the 1982 agreement while the company and the Bord Na Mona Group Of Unions negotiated a new transport system. The recommendation was signed on 30 September 1994. The unions argued that annual bonus reviews were agreed and should not be held back pending workplace changes. Bord Na Mona said changes were needed to reduce costs, secure employment and protect competitiveness. The Court called for negotiations on an alternative transport system to be completed by 1 November 1994 and said it would review progress if there was disagreement.
