In 1994, the Labour Court recommended a package of changes at Team Aer Lingus, including a pay freeze until July 1996 and changes to working practices. The recommendation was signed on 26 August 1994, following a dispute with the Craft Group of Unions, Services Industrial Professional Technical Union and Technical Supervisors' Committee.
The Court said the company faced a financial crisis and its costs per man-hour were above what customers would pay. It did not recommend the company's proposed 10% basic-pay cut, instead recommending a freeze that included increments due. It also recommended changes to shift arrangements, overtime and work practices.
The Craft Group of Unions initially rejected the recommendation, then accepted it after a second ballot. The Court later clarified its implementation and said the clarification did not alter the recommendation's terms.
