Labour Court recommends review of Mater Hospital nursing pay claim

In 1994, the Labour Court recommended no immediate change to the standard pay rate for the Mater Hospital's Deputy Director of Nursing after the Irish Nurses Organisation sought to restore pay relativity on behalf of an unnamed worker. The union argued that three upgraded nursing posts received about 12% more pay and the Deputy Director should receive a similar increase. The hospital said the upgraded posts carried additional responsibilities and the Deputy Director's role was unchanged. The Court noted the new working arrangements were not yet fully operative and recommended that the parties re-examine the position when they were in place, considering similar hospitals. The recommendation was signed on 29 March 1994.
