The Labour Court recommended that Dublin Hotels Branch and the Services Industrial Professional Technical Union enter negotiations over the union’s claim for a 3% local bargaining increase for about 2,800 workers. The recommendation was dated 24 September 1993. The union said the increase was part of the pay package and pointed to workers’ cooperation on competitiveness and productivity. Dublin Hotels Branch cited a recession and falling bedroom occupancy and food and beverage sales. The Court said negotiations should begin immediately under Clause Three of the Programme for Economic and Social Progress and that the union should give serious consideration to management’s claims of difficult trading conditions.
