Labour Court recommends twice annual basic-rate loss in Shannonside Milk Products dispute

In 1993, the Labour Court recommended redeployment compensation at twice the annual loss of basic rate in a rationalisation dispute between Shannonside Milk Products Limited and Services Industrial Professional Technical Union. It said the company's plan to move boilerhouse work into the maintenance department was not unreasonable, but the forklift driver's circumstances were not comparable. On alleged discrimination, it repeated a suggestion for a specific Rights Commissioner investigation. The Court also made recommendations on effluent-plant pay and training, staffing flexibility, sampling duties and redundancy selection. It did not recommend improved severance terms. If the overall package was accepted, it recommended the 3% payment take effect from 1 August 1992. The recommendation was dated 30 April 1993.
