The Labour Court recommended reducing disciplinary action against a Lever Brothers Ireland Limited worker to the loss of three days’ wages. The recommendation, dated 17 December 1992, followed a dispute with the Marine Port And General Workers' Union over a forklift altercation. The company had proposed a week’s unpaid suspension, removal from shunter duties, a move to lower-paid warehouse work and a final written warning. The Court said the evidence about the incident was conflicting and the proposed action too severe. It urged both parties to address deteriorating relations among workers on the factory floor.
