The Labour Court recommended that Lister Tubes Limited increase its redundancy offer to £6,500 for a worker whose cleaning job was affected when the company decided to contract out the work. The recommendation was dated 30 September 1991. The Services Industrial Professional Technical Union sought five weeks’ pay for each year of service, plus statutory entitlements. The company’s offer was £5,750. It said the redundancy was genuine, described alternative work it had offered and cited its financial position. The Court recommended that the employer’s offer be amended to £6,500, to be accepted by the worker in full and final settlement.
