In 1991, the Labour Court recommended that Irish Taxi Owner's Co-Operative give a worker sympathetic consideration for a telephonist vacancy if he applied. The Services Industrial Professional Technical Union had sought a transfer for the worker, who had spent 12 years as a base controller. The Court said the employer could assess vacancies by suitability, seniority and service. It also said management should prevent physical access to controllers and agree procedures for handling complaints about the service. The recommendation was dated 12 March 1991.
