In 1991, the Labour Court recommended that The Racing Board pay £20 per year of service to Tote casual staff with at least 20 years’ service who had been compulsorily retired at age 65 or older by 31 December 1989. The recommendation also covered serving casual staff aged 60 or over on 31 December 1990 who would retire at 65. The Court said the qualifying staff’s long service merited ex-gratia recognition and recommended that The Racing Board (Tote) Employees Association accept the terms in full and final settlement.
