The Labour Court recommended a settlement of a shorter-working-week dispute between The Irish Glass Bottle Company Limited and the Services Industrial Professional Technical Union. The recommendation was signed on 26 September 1990. The union sought a 39-hour week for 300 workers, with an early Friday finish for day workers and additional leave for shift workers. The Court recommended reducing oiler/cleaner posts from four to three for day workers, retaining existing grace time and keeping shift workers’ self-cover arrangement without additional cover or overtime. It also recommended flexibility and training for spares and casuals, and clocking arrangements around lunch.
