In 1990, the Labour Court recommended that Steel Company Of Ireland Limited recognise a union for workers who were members once their representation was clarified. The company said it already had a recognition agreement with I.D.A.T.U. and could not verify union membership. Manufacturing Science Finance said most staff were members and sought to negotiate for them.
