In 1989, the Labour Court recommended that Meath Hospital introduce its new portering rosters without delay, following a dispute with the Irish Transport And General Workers' Union over private security and staffing. The Court also recommended a trial of the hospital's weekend staffing levels, with a review at the end of the following June. It recommended that a porter assigned to the front gate move to duties inside the hospital. The Court cited the lack of written confirmation of the competing accounts and found the change would not reduce income while retaining night duties. The recommendation was signed on 24 November 1989.
