In 1989, the Labour Court did not recommend conceding the Irish Distributive And Administrative Trade Union’s claim against Switzer And Company for £286.11 in overtime pay. The recommendation was signed on 30 June 1989. The union said a dispatch manager had worked approved late-night and Sunday overtime and expected premium pay under trade agreements. It also pointed to an earlier overtime payment. Switzer And Company said salaried management employees were not entitled to overtime, that the earlier payment was a payroll error, and that it had offered time off in lieu. The Court found one mistaken payment was insufficient evidence to support the union’s claim.
